WORK OBJECTIVE:

This job involves all manner of preparation and completion of operations of any type of work normally done in the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Planning and performing repairs, replacements and adjustments with a minimum of direct supervision. • Layout and install load and control circuits. Demonstrate a high level of skill in reading cable diagrams, wiring diagrams, logic circuits and schematics. Understand and be proficient in use of electrical/electronic test equipment. • Discover defective, unserviceable or deteriorating conditions in electrical/electronic systems, units or parts; diagnose the cause of such conditions; and determine the extent of required adjustments, repairs and/or replacements. • Perform any and all of the work assigned as duties for any jobs in subordinate or comparable classifications and perform all duties with a speed and accuracy satisfactory to supervisory authorities. • Take instructions and assignments to qualify for work in other classifications and develop knowledge of Company policies pertaining to the work involved. • Explain and demonstrate to others all job details, methods and procedures when directed to do so by the Department Supervisor or his deputy. • Must be able to wear and utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Must become certified under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 and 609 Certification for Refrigerants. • The duties stated above are an outline of duties that are performed. There may be other duties and tasks assigned that are not stated in the above responsibilities, which will become part of this or any job as directed by Supervision.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Must develop knowledge of company policies pertaining to the work involved. • Must take instructions and assignments to qualify for work in other classifications. • Must be able to perform any and all work of subordinate or comparable classifications and perform all duties with a speed and accuracy satisfactory to supervisory authorities. • Must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; must be able to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. • Must be able to wear and utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing (ladders), twisting (upper body) and/or rotating. • May also involve lifting (20-80+ pounds), carrying (up to 10 pounds), pushing and/or pulling (200+ pounds) materials and/or equipment. • Job involves standing two hours at a time for three hours per day, sitting for three hours at a time for three hours per day and walking two hours at a time for three hours per day.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

90% of time is spent inside, 10% of time is spent outside, exposing employee to natural environmental conditions. Work exposes employees to fumes, dust, gases, odors and mist. Employee is also exposed to noise, vibration, hazards (slip and fall, chemicals) and motorized vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Must possess a valid New York Driver’s License with the ability to obtain and maintain a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-BP) and then obtain & maintain CDL A with towing endorsement. To be an eligible candidate for the position, persons who were not full-time Metro employees on or before December 16, 1996 will be required to pass the Advanced Comprehensive Skills Test selected for the position.
