WORK OBJECTIVE:
This job involves the inspection, preparation and completion of any type of work done in the department at any location of company property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. • Giving adequate instruction relative to any or all work performed in the department, the spot checking of the work as performed by the mechanics in the department; responsibility, by special assignment, for all department activities for any shift; exercising supervision of department employees on all shifts; exercising judgment relative to the discovery and reporting of unsafe and irregular conditions; protecting all company property during job performance
• Analyzing and correcting problems involved in vehicle maintenance and repair; reading and interpreting all vehicle and equipment maintenance manuals and schematics
• Disassembling, checking, adjusting, repairing and testing all components related to motor vehicle preventative maintenance and inspection; exercising attention and vigilance to prevent and avoid work failures; checking the use of safety devices and safety procedures in the work of employees and proper use and conversation of company tools, equipment and supplies
• Use of P/C to create and close work orders, run reports for the scheduling of PM’s and Safety inspections, schedule and monitor work flow including the use of the “day book”, maintaining and creating AM and month end reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must possess all qualifications required to work in subordinate classifications and perform all duties with a speed and accuracy satisfactory to supervisory authorities. Must develop knowledge of and enforce compliance with company policies pertaining to the work and workforce involved. Must be thoroughly familiar with the operation and function of all types of bus equipment and have a complete knowledge of D.O.T. rules and regulations pertaining to the operation of buses in New York State. Must be able to wear and utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must explain and demonstrate to others all job details, methods and procedures when directed to do so by the Supervisor or his deputies. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to obtain certification under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 and or 609 for refrigerants. Must be able to operate and be certified to operate a PIV (powered industrial vehicle/fork truck) Posses the ability to operate safely and effectively common equipment for the position, to include but not limited to, Pallet jacks, Plows trucks, Buses etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing (stairs), twisting and/or rotating. May also involve lifting (30-80+ pounds), carrying (30-80+ pounds), pushing and/or pulling (5-15 pounds). Job involves standing up to one hour at a time for one hour per day, sitting four hours at a time for six hours per day and walking two hours at a time, for four hours per day.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
90% of time is spent inside, 10% of time is spent outside, exposing employee to natural environmental conditions. Work exposes employees to fumes, dust, gases, odors and mist. Employee is also exposed to noise, vibration, hazards, (slip and fall) and motorized vehicles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License with the ability to obtain and maintain a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-BP), and obtain & maintain CDL A with towing endorsement.
