WORK OBJECTIVE:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Facility Supervisor, performs mechanical duties at the Maintenance Garage, BNIA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
• Diagnoses and effectuates repairs on diesel and gasoline, two and four-cylinder engines and the vehicles and equipment powered by them, including hydraulic systems, valves, cylinders, pumps and motors.
• Installs and repairs electrical systems on a variety of equipment and vehicles.
• Services vehicles including oil changes, lubrication, changing and repairing tires, mounting and adjusting snow plows, runway brooms, spreaders, snow blowers and the various types of small and large equipment used in everyday operations of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
• Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of and ability to accurately diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and body work repairs on the large variety of gasoline, diesel and alternate fuel vehicles in the Buffalo Niagara International Airport’s fleet; capable of using the many hand, power, and diagnostic tools that must be used in the job; must be able to read and interpret technical maintenance manuals, blue prints, electrical and hydraulic circuit diagrams; must be able to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, etc.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires capability of performing essential job functions in outdoor environments in all weather conditions, heat, smoke, dust, fumes, and high noise levels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school/trade school; at least two (2) years’ experience as a Mechanic with a background in heavy duty and diesel mechanics; must possess a valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License Class B or A, with airbrake endorsement and a satisfactory driving record including usage of NFTA/NFT Metro vehicles; must possess or obtain a New York State Inspection License Class 1 and 2. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge/ US Customs and Border Protection Seal.
