WORK OBJECTIVE:

The System Engineer will function as the lead systems architect, SME (Subject Matter Expert) for a cross section of servers and applications, mentor/train system administrators and support projects as a technical expert. The System Engineer will be heavily involved in projects, acting as a liaison between the technology group and business units. The System Engineer will ensure projects are deployed in compliance with IT standards and policies. Working close with 3rd parties, both internally and externally, the System Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end technology solution within the Authority.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. • Responsible for support and maintenance of Microsoft Windows and Linux versions, this includes security patching, storage/network management and configuration assistance. • Deep understanding of networking (physical/virtual) with knowledge and experience with IPv4, IPv6, TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP management and wireless. • Management and administration of VMWare vSphere, NetApp Storage Area Network and Dell Server hardware • Direct hands-on management and administration of Commvault data protection suite as well as proven experience troubleshooting backup failures. • Configuration, performance tuning and customization of SolarWinds Observability • Proficient in managing Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policies and User/Group management • Strong understanding of Microsoft Cloud Computing including O365, Azure, EntraID and auditing. • Understanding of identity providers, enterprise application integrations and MFA management. • Works escalated helpdesk issues for the areas they are responsible and assists and advises the helpdesk administrator/s as required. • Creation and management of standard operating procedures, technology standards/policies and lifecycle management. • Assist with budget creation, new hardware evaluations and architecture design process. • Works with groups and users in other areas to assist and manage applications that they utilize. • Upgrade systems and processes as required for enhanced functionality and security issue resolution. • Seek ways to improve system performance, integrations and operations. • Review application logs and respond/remediate events reported. • Performs required audits in a timely manner and remediates issues as required. • Manage relationship(s) with vendors to support NFTA systems • Assistance with new technology evaluations and design • Technical advisory role on enterprise projects. • Investigate technical issues and provide documented root cause analysis. • Trains junior staff member • Perform additional duties and tasks assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of computer operating systems (Windows Server 2012 or later, Linux and variants.) The ability to utilize resources at hand to discover, understand and resolve issues on complex systems. Confidential or sensitive information may be encountered during work activities and the expectation to keep this information private and secure is required. Must have the capacity to provide technical direction and guidance to junior-level staff. Must be able to work well in a team atmosphere. Must be a self-starter and work well without continual supervision. After hours support and on call may be required as the need arises.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and /or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 50 pounds) with the occasional need to lift heavier equipment and materials with or without assistance as required.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems and 5 years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSE) or similar credentials are preferred. Experience should include 5+ years supporting systems and network operations in medium to large organizations. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge/US Custom’s & Border Protection Seal.
