WORK OBJECTIVE:

Under the direction of the Vice President of Engineering and Facilities Management, this position involves design, planning and executing preventative maintenance and capital upgrades/expansions to the electric power distribution systems for the NFTA’s Light Rail Rapid Transit (LRRT) and three bus garages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. • Serve as the subject matter expert for the LRRT and bus garages’ electrical systems including but not limited to:  LRRT 23 KV primary power & substation distribution  LRRT 600V DC power distribution  LRRT overhead catenary system  Electric bus charging  Emergency & standby generator systems  Photovoltaic systems • Advise electrical staff on safe practices. • Develop and implement an arc flash hazard analysis program • Develop and administer, with electrical staff, a preventative maintenance program. • Develop, with information technology staff, power monitoring systems. • Identify and design capital projects to assure electrical infrastructure reliability. • Identify and design capital projects to support increasing electrical demands. • Oversee designs and installations of equipment upgrades and system expansions and procure electrical services as necessary. • Provide technical reviews of Engineering Dept. Metro projects. • Assists in the development and/or update of electrical maintenance policies and procedures. • Support rail system expansion including migration to battery assisted rail cars and new development of new technologies. • Interact with utility companies and state agencies NYPA and NYSERDA. • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Thorough knowledge of electrical systems and electrical safety. • Proficient in the interpretation of electrical codes, regulations, and engineering best practices. • Proficient in reading, editing, and creating electrical drawings such as one-line diagrams, conduit schedules and panel schedules. • Ambition to learn Metro specific systems e.g. LRRT direct current systems, electric bus charging. • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. • Training in direct current electrical systems is available.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires capability of performing essential job functions in and office setting, and at equipment locations (indoors and outdoors).
