WORK OBJECTIVE:
Preparation, performance and completion of general cleaning work in and around passenger stations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
• Duties include checking and maintaining cleanliness of stations, facilities, and equipment, sweeping, mopping and scrubbing floors, corridors and stairways at rail passenger stations.
• Cleaning windows, panels, artwork, stainless steel, and other areas necessary to properly maintain station areas.
• Removing and properly disposing of waste materials; shoveling snow from entrances and from sidewalks.
• There may be other duties and tasks not stated here which may become part of this job or any job as directed by company supervision.
• Will be required to drive Company vehicle.
• Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must have a satisfactory prior work record. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing (ladders), twisting (upper body) and/or rotating (pivot). May also involve lifting (20-50 pounds), carrying (20-50 pounds), pushing and/or pulling (25-50 pounds) materials and/or equipment. Job involves standing three hours at a time for four hours per day, sitting for one to two hours at a time for three hours per day and walking three hours at a time for four hours per day.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
60% of time is spent inside, 40% of time is spent outside, exposing employee to natural environmental conditions. Work exposes employees to fumes, dust, gases, odors and mist. Employee is also exposed to noise, vibration, hazards (eye contamination) and motorized vehicles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License of the classification required by law for the type of vehicle(s) driven as part of an employee’s normal job duties. Participation in the Bloodborne Pathogen Program is required. Must be able to wear and utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
