Works under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, Facilities Maintenance Department. Performs a wide variety of maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repairs at NFTA facilities.
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
• Makes minor to moderate repairs to buildings, building systems and equipment.
• Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance to building systems, doors, walls, ceilings and floor surfaces of various types.
• Makes repairs to roofing systems.
• Assists utility/tradesperson with carpentry, plumbing, and painting, with maintenance and new construction projects.
• Performs grounds keeping, housekeeping and other building maintenance as directed.
• Performs all additional assignments as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic construction procedures; a good understanding and knowledge of maintenance practices for all building trades; ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding, work independently and in inclement weather. Willingness to respond to call-ins during off hours and holidays as required. Must be able to effectively read and write. Knowledgeable in the use of test equipment and specialty tools preferred. Basic knowledge of electricity and building trades.
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing (steps, ladders), twisting (upper body), rotating (upper body) and/or crawling (5-10 feet). Duties may also involve lifting (20-40 lbs), carrying (up to 30 lbs.), pushing and/or pulling (50 lbs.) materials and/or equipment. Job involves standing four hours at a time for six hours per day, sitting one hour at a time for two hours per day and walking for two hours per day.
50% of time is spent inside, 50% of time outside, exposing employee to natural environmental conditions. Work exposes employee to fumes, dust, gases, odors, and mist. Employee is also exposed to noise, vibration, hazards (moving conveyors) and motorized vehicles.
High School graduate and five (5) years proven experience working in a construction and/or maintenance field, welding experience preferred. NYS Driver’s license required. Must be able to obtain and maintain SIDA (Security Identification Display Access) status.
