WORK OBJECTIVE:

This is technical and clerical claims adjusting work assisting with the processing and settlement of public liability, property damage and bodily injury claims. An employee in this class assists Claim Representatives in claims liability investigation and settlement. Duties involve processing claim forms and pursuing subrogation recovery. Work includes the performance of routine and non-routine tasks following standardized practices. Completed work is reviewed for conformity to policy and legal requirements while difficult cases are discussed or resolved by senior staff members. Assignments are made orally or in writing and work is reviewed through observation of results obtained, conferences and periodic reports or evaluations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. • Takes calls from third party claimants, completes necessary work to file a claim, coordinates with the appropriate department to assist in determining liability, and obtains police reports and other needed documentation. • Maintains frequent contact with employees, claimants, medical providers, attorneys, and insurance companies. • Performs routine computer terminal operations such as Excel, Microsoft Word and video surveillance programs. • Assists with defense preparation in litigation. • Performs departmental clerical, supply and record maintenance functions. • Responsible for ordering and performing initial evaluation of video evidence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Knowledge of insurance claims, medical and legal vocabulary in order to understand the nature of property damage and bodily injury claims. Knowledge of claims administration and the techniques of investigation, adjustment and settlement on a trainee level. Knowledge of modern office procedures, practices and equipment. Ability to deal with the public and employees with tact and diplomacy in resolving stressful or conflict situations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An Associate’s degree and two (2) years clerical experience in claims processing or related work, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to obtain a Notary license.
