WORK OBJECTIVE:

This position involves the preparation, performance and completion of general labor classification type work. It consists of cleaning rail and automotive vehicles, preparing such vehicles for service; observing and reporting of unsafe or irregular conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. • Perform all manner general labor classification-type work, including but not limited to vehicle cleaning, and shop/yard/office janitorial work. • Collect, remove and properly dispose of waste materials. • Perform all duties with a speed and accuracy satisfactory to Company management. • Accept instructions and work assignments required to qualify for other classifications. • Develop knowledge of Company policies pertaining to the work involved. • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must be able to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing. Must have a satisfactory work record. Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors and other employees.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of bending, squatting reaching, kneeling, climbing (stairs), twisting (hand/arm) and/or rotating (hand/arm). May involve the lifting (20-80+ pounds), carrying (10-50 pounds), pushing and/or pulling (mop/broom) of materials. Job involves standing for up to one hour at a time for two hours per day, sitting for one hour at a time for hours per day and walking three hours at a time for four hours per day.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

70% of time is spent inside and 30% of time is spent outside. Work exposes employees to fumes, dust and vibration, as well as noise (leaf blowers), hazards (slip and fall), and motorized equipment such as (vacuums).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent combination of education and experience. Employee must be able to pass certification for operation of rail vehicles. Possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license of the classification required by law for the type of vehicle(s) driven as part of an employee’s normal job. Must be able to wear and utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Participation in the Bloodborne Pathogen Program is required.

NOTE:

IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL REGULATION 49 CFR PARTS 653 & 654, THIS IS A “SAFETY SENSITIVE” POSITION, SUBJECT TO DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING. PARTICIPATION IN THE BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN PROGRAM IS REQUIRED.
