TRAIN CONTROL SPECIALIST (CONDITIONAL)

This position involves the preparation, performance and completion of any type of assigned work normally done in the Train Control Department at any location connected with the operation of the company's rail system.

• Applicant must be willing to work with minimum supervision and have the ability to perform the assignments given to him by the Train Control Leader or Supervisor.
• Must also fully understand the principles, methods and procedures applicable to the maintenance and repair of: Phase selective track circuits, Digital Transmission Systems, Real Time Computer Control and Monitoring Systems, Switch Machines, Way Side Signal Systems, Audio Track Circuit Systems, Carborne Control Systems, and Vehicle to wayside transmission systems.
• Applicant must be able to understand and be proficient in the use of complex test equipment, including but not limited to Oscilloscopes, Digital Multi-Meters, Frequency Meters, Deviation Meters, Digital Probes, Semiconductor and logic Test Devices, and specialized diagnostic test equipment.
• Perform additional duties and tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must be able to demonstrate a high level of skill in reading cable diagrams, logic circuits, and schematics. Must be able to express ideas effective, both orally and in writing. Must have satisfactory prior work record. Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors and other employees. Must be able to wear and utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Participation in the Bloodborne Pathogen Program is required.
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing (ladders), twisting, rotating and/or crawling (under rail car). May also involve lifting (10-50+ pounds), carrying (10-50 pounds), pushing and/or pulling (5-50 pounds) materials and/or equipment. Job involves standing 3 hour at a time for four hours per day, sitting for one hour per day and walking one hour at a time for two hours per day.
80% of time is spent inside, 20% of time is spent outside, exposing employee to natural environmental conditions. Work exposes employees to fumes, dust, gases, odors and mist. Employee is also exposed to noise, vibration, hazards (slip and fall, chemicals) and motorized vehicles.
Must have two years of formal training in advanced electrical/electronic theory, including digital logic, analog logic, integrated circuitry, and CRT Circuitry and of modern Train Control Systems. To be an eligible candidate for the position, all candidates will be required to pass the skills test designated for the position. Employees must be able to pass certification for operation of rail vehicles. Employee must be able to possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License of the classification required by law for the type of vehicle(s) driven as part of an employee’s normal job duties.
To be an eligible candidate for the position, persons who were not full-time Metro employees on or before December 16, 1996 will be required to pass the Advanced Comprehensive Skills Test selected for the position.IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL REGULATION 49 CFR PARTS 653 & 654, THIS IS A “SAFETY SENSITIVE” POSITION, SUBJECT TO DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING. PARTICIPATION IN THE BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN PROGRAM IS REQUIRED.
